My name is Amy Melsom and I am one half of Xootro’s founding team.
I assume, and hope, you are reading this because you’d like to know more about why and how my Dad and I began a company centred around brain health, with the vision to unlock our full potential through the gifts of mother nature.
Our family and our ancient connection to nature
To understand the origins of Xootro we must go back, far before my time on planet earth.
The story of Xootro begins with my great-grandmothers;
Maanu Te Puea Ngarotata, or Mona Wooster, was Maori and practiced Rongoa or traditional Maori medicine. She was a spiritual healer. A Tohunga. She inspires me everyday.
Tenikomua, or Ziona, Parei Joseph, was from a small island called Aitutaki, part of the Cook Islands located in the Pacific Ocean. She believed in the healing power of nature and natural remedies, implementing this philosophy into all parts of her life and sharing it with generations to come.
Unfortunately Ziona and Mona have passed away but the unique connection they had with our planet, has influenced myself and my family significantly.
They will never know the full extent of their ongoing teachings of wisdom and for that, I am incredibly grateful.
The modern world’s impact on our mental clarity
With the strong influence from my ancestors, and my father’s past struggles with depression and anxiety, we returned to natural solutions.
Our research uncovered the herbs Bacopa Monnieri (Brahmi) and Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica). Both are native to Australia, with a long history of use in Traditional Chinese and Ayurveda medicine and likely, Aboriginal bush medicine.
Our backyard quickly became the home to various ancient herbs and plants proven to alleviate stress and anxiety. Other effects include their ability to provide cognitive enhancement - supporting memory, focus and clarity.
Maori and Cook Islander healing shares the same philosophy as Indian Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese medicine - that true health and well-being is holistic, encompassing total health in mind, body and spirit. If one area is lacking, the other two will suffer.
Sharing ancient wisdom to solve modern problems
As J. F. Kennedy once said, “a rising tide lifts all boats”.
This is part of our mantra.
We started Xootro to share these herbs with the world. We need to be able to think smarter, to collectively solve the world’s wicked problems like tackling the increase of anxiety within our younger generations, or saving our planet from climate change.
Therefore, it made perfect sense for us to co-found our own biotech company to research, unlock, and share the secrets of traditional medical wisdom and plants to help people enhance a person’s cognitive ability.
Xootro was born in mid 2018, with the potential being quickly recognised by the Western Sydney University which accepted the company into its startup incubator program and the NSW Government who awarded grant funding.
Through hard work and perseverance, we formulated a safe, legal and effective plant based Australian cognitive enhancer that will be available in capsule form.
We’re currently working to have approval from the TGA in a few weeks time. We’ve invested a ton to ensure quality is second to none, so the initial batch will be small and available to a very limited number of people.
We think demand will be huge because when we explain the potential benefits - enhanced memory, focus and clarity, with lots of people saying they need it now and keep asking when it will be available. Truly.
